New London bars to check out this month

With the majority of the London population either broke or off the booze (well it feels like it anyway), January is a quiet month, with minimal new openings or anything happening in general. However, there are a few new places on the bar-dar… (although some of these are restaurants that also sell interesting cocktails)

near and far bar peckham

Near & Far

South London’s growing hipster spot gets another gem in the form of Near & Far bar, brouht to you by the guys who run Magic Roundabout at Old Street. The new venue ticks all the boxes for the target crowd: Giant cheeseplant leaf murals = tick and neon pink lights = tick) Find it at Peckham levels (the revamped carpark where Frank’s rooftop is).

The USP: The cocktail menu has the rather vague theme of ‘Import & Export’, so basically using spirits and ingredients that are local – from London, and also from around the around, so… everything then.

When to go: The large space is great for hanging out with mates and also good one for freelancers to hang out with their Apple macs during the day with a skinny latte. Then there’s disco ball and dancefloor for Saturday night good times.

Opened: December

rascals

Rascals

If you’re after a rowdy one, this is your place. A neon-lit cocktail den with a room designed to get wet and sticky, with water gun and jelly mountains, to encourage the hjiinks and espresso martinis on tap – definitely don’t wear your Sunday bests! Cocktails don’t take themselves too seriously either, with names like Tonka The Plonka and Yuzu Pretty.

The USP: Waterproof dining room (!)

When to go: Hen/stag do

Opened: November last year

97 Curtain Road, London, EC2A 3BS
