We’ll be first in line for these new London bars and restaurant openings, including a speakeasy hidden behind a pharmacy shop.
1. Hoppers – Opening 12th September
What: New Sri Lankan restaurant from those behind Hoppers Soho. The drinks (and food) are pretty great there, so we’re excited for this new place. Cocktails with be centred around Arrack – a Sri Lankan spirit made with fermented coconut sap and Dutch spirit Genever. The cocktails will use ingredients inspired by Sri Lanka’s flora and vegetation. There’ll also be frozen slushy drinks, we love the sound of the pine-pol-ada and the fro-yo mango lassi. And then there’s alcoholic milkshakes and sharing jungle Negroni cocktails… looks like we’ll need to come back a few times to get through the whole menu.
Where: St Christopher’s Place, just off Oxford Street
2. Smoking Goat Shoreditch – Opening October
What: Soho’s renowned Thai barbecue pub is coming East way, but this time the main focus is on the bar – with cocktails using the same ingredients and fruits used in the delicious food – for which there’ll be a short and sweet menu of just 4 dishes that change daily. Goat to be done (!)
3. Cub – Opening September
What? What do you get when a top drinks’ guy and a top chef get together? An awesome new restaurant-bar hybrid in Hoxton.
Who’s behind it: Ryan Chetiyawardana (a.k.a Mr Lyan) is heading up the cocktails – his South Bank bar Dandelyan just scooped a bevvy of awards at Tales Of A Cocktail – including one for World’s Best Cocktail bar. His co-partner on the project is Doug McMaster, the man behind award winning zero-waste restaurant Silo in Brighton. The duo’s background is in exploring sustainability and this continues with Cub, one example of how they’re doing this is by growing some ingredients just down the road in a local publicgarden. At Cub, the idea is neither food nor drink will take the limelight, with a bartender-chef prepping the food and drinks side by side.
Where? Standing where White Lyan used to be in Hoxton (RIP), here,
Opening… 7th September
