The ex Head Bartender of the Savoy’s Beaufort is opening a new French inspired Bethnal Green bar, with a focus on calvados, aperitifs and Normandy cider.
The new cocktail menu is based on the six borders of France, the “French Hexagon”, taking inspiration from the country’s art, fashion, design and craftsmanship. The following drinks head up the list:
Calvados mixed with cold-pressed apple juice, the variety changing regularly, that will be carbonated in-house daily
Truffled White Negroni
Made with truffles currently in season
Champagne Pina Colada
The new French-inspired bar will have a strong focus on aperitifs, including Kir (crème de cassis topped up with white wine) and Picon Bière (France’s take on a shandy). Cocktails will be crafted from local, French and bespoke ingredients, including Coupette’s own CBGB (Coupette Black Grape Bitters) and an original French amor / bitter aperitif, created with artisan producer The Bloomsbury Distillery.
And as expected… Chris has put together a killer bar team – naturally there’s a French guy on board – head bartender Franck Dedieu from Montpellier, (global winner of the 2015 Bacardí Legacy cocktail competition FYI). And Dan Schofield is the assistant manager, formerly head bartender at the legendary 69 Colebrooke Row in Islington, and the renowned Little Red Door in Paris.
We can’t wait for this one…
